Achievements

The TAVI initiative (see below) demonstrated the value of combined procedures between the cardiologists and cardiac surgeons. As a result of this experience the plans for the new cardiac laboratories at Waikato Hospital were altered so that it would be possible to perform open-heart surgery and angioplasty at the same time. Non-cardiac procedures such as neurosurgery can also be undertaken in this laboratory, which is the most up to date in Australasia.
