Achievements

After upgrading the Coronary Care Unit, the Heart Trust supported Waikato Hospital’s successful submission to the Cardiac Surgical Review Committee to establish cardiac surgery at the hospital.  The Heart Trust supported the bid with funding to assist with the recruitment of a surgeon and perfusionist, the training of anaesthetists and the purchase of additional Cardiac Ultrasound (“Echo”) equipment. Since 1989 over 10500 patients from throughout the mid North Island region have undergone cardiac surgery at Waikato Hospital.
