Taranaki
The Taranaki region includes New Plymouth, Hawera, Opunaki, Stratford, Waitara, Mokau and Patea. Heart patients have access to a range of diagnostic services at Taranaki Base Hospital in New Plymouth.
Specialised cardiac treatments are available at Waikato Hospital. Some 320 local heart patients travel from Taranaki to Waikato Hospital's state of the art cardiac unit each year for treatment.
