Advancing Heart Care for the Waikato

Bridging the gap in Cardiac Services

In just four decades, Waikato Hospital has risen from a cardiac backwater to one of NZ’s top cardiac centres.

Timely access to modern technology has been key to this success

The presence of modern technology helps Waikato Hospital recruit specialists trained in the most up-to-date techniques.

For 49 years The Heart Trust has provided funding for modern cardiac technology at Waikato Hospital, so that patients can get access to top class care.

Spurred on by the Trust's efforts, subsequent generations of this technology are provided by the Government.

Making a Difference,
One Heart at a Time

Over nearly five decades, The Heart Trust has invested more than $3 million in cardiac services, supporting over one million people—one fifth of New Zealand’s population. Our work ensures that patients receive the best possible care, when they need it most.

From Champion to Heart Trust Patron

Few sporting moments rival the drama of Rob Waddell’s 2008 Olympic rowing trial against Mahe Drysdale—where mid-race heart palpitations forced Rob to ease up, revealing a private struggle with atrial fibrillation.

A year later, he underwent successful cardiac ablation at Waikato Hospital. Now a patron of The Heart Trust, Rob is giving back, helping ensure world-class cardiac care is accessible across the Midland region.

His journey—from Olympic gold to heart patient—reminds us that heart conditions can affect anyone, and that with expert care, recovery and renewal are always within reach.
