Rotorua Hospital is the larger of two hospitals serving Rotorua, Taupo and the smaller communities of Mangakino and Turangi.   Heart patients have access to out-patients clinics provided by local physicians and visiting cardiologists from Hamilton. Echocardiography and pacing clinics are available locally but patients travel to Waikato Hospital for major cardiac procedures, treatments and surgery.

Some 500 patients from Lakes District gain access to world class treatment from Waikato's cardiac unit each year.   The Heart Trust helped establish cardiac surgery, angioplasty and electrophysiology at Waikato Hospital.
